What to drink on the ketogenic diet

Now that we defined the ketogenic dietand what to eat to enter and stay in ketosisLet's take a look at the beverages recommended or at least tolerated during a diet. ketogenic !

The water

Water is your main ally in the ketogenic diet. Since you're no longer allowed industrial sodas packed with sugar and other unsavory substances, we're going to have to double our water intakeThis is especially true of headaches, which can sometimes occur during the keto-adaptation phase.

You can "tuner your water with natural flavors such as cucumber, a little lemon, a few herbs. You can add a little salt to it, as we tend to lack sodium in a low-sodium diet. carbohydrates.

You can also add a little coconut oil to increase your daily fat intake.

Herbal teas

Herbal tea is a natural beverage made from plant extracts. It is obtained by maceration, decoction or, more often, infusion. It differs from tea in that it contains no theine.

So you can go for the herbal tea.

Bone broth

Moisturizing and packed with nutrients and electrolytes, bone broth is an original and effective beverage for ketosisespecially if you add a little oil or butter.

Coffee and tea: the beverages that divide

In the community KetoEnergy drinks, like coffee and tea, are the subject of much debate. Some people tolerate them, especially if they are enhanced with coconut oil or MCT Oil (more on this later), others limit or even prohibit it.

The problem is that, like so many other things, banning coffee from one day to the next for some people can quickly become an insurmountable obstacle. But on the other hand, if you start by limiting your coffee consumption to certain pleasurable moments, and stop taking it every two hours as some people do at work, for example, the expected benefits will be extremely beneficial.

That's right, tea and coffee have the effect of artificially increasing cortisol production, which is inflammatory and can hinder ketosis. In the long term, this is tiring for the body.

So it's a good idea, at least as a precaution, to treat yourself to a coffee when a social occasion arises. You can also decide to "earn" your coffee. In other words, plan it for when a task is finished, or for a moment out of time, when you feel like being alone. The idea here is to stop drinking it frantically and automatically, but to enjoy it as it should be enjoyed.

In the Blue Zones For example, coffee is a time for conviviality, sharing and meditation. Not a gasoil to "hold" in front of your computer screen.

The question of alcohol

Sugar alcohols are obviously to be avoided.. As for low-carbohydrate alcohols, such as red wine, white wine, gin and whisky, it's best not to drink them regularly, and to reserve them for moments of pleasure and sharing.

Just like coffee, I'd advise you to reserve this kind of drink for those festive moments when you decide to put your lifestyle on hold.

The alcohol problem, is that it dehydrates, makes you hungry and is stored primarily as fat in the body.Even though it's a low-carbohydrate alcohol, it has unintended effects on the ketogenic diet.

Nevertheless, a glass of red wine once in a while won't do you any harm.

Beverages prohibited on the ketogenic diet

  • Milk
  • Sodas (0% or not)
  • Beer (cf. the question of alcohol, an occasional beer will bring you out of ketosis for a while, but if it's worth it, it's no big deal!).
  • Fruit juices (especially industrial fruit juices)
  • Smoothies
  • Energy sodas
  • etc...

          2. On other sites I see that yellow and lime lemons are compatible with the keto diet. And also I thought that lemon makes the body alkaline, and that this was desirable in a general way for the body, less fertile to diseases and inflammations? Thank you for enlightening me. Good day Sonia.

          3. For lemon, no problem as a seasoning for your dishes, but too much lemon juice could lead to abuse, with large daily lemonades, and a slippery slope towards an overly sweet taste, in a ketogenic diet it's a bit risky... But from time to time no worries.

          4. Thanks for your quick answer. So the taste of lemon makes you want to eat something sweet? I eat one lemon a day,,rather onnmy food,,sometimes even 1and1/2 . in fact the juice of the lemon that I squeeze onnmy food. anddI am trying to fall towards a very low protein ketogenic diet,,in order to prepare myself for a fast,,withhthe aim of cleansing my body invaded by lymphatic cancer.
